Son of WWE icon suspended by NFL for six games – and career could already be over amid plan to wrestle

The NFL has suspended New Orleans Saints wide receiver Brock Rechsteiner for the first six games of the 2026 season.

News of his suspension was announced by the league on the personnel notice for Thursday.

No reason was given for the suspension.

According to ESPN Senior NFL insider Adam Schefter, Rechsteiner is eligible to participate in all preseason activities, including games.

His suspension will take effect when rosters are reduced to 53 players. Until now, the 23-year-old has been competing for a spot on the Saints‘ roster.

Rechsteiner is the son of WWE icon and Hall of Famer, Scott Rechsteiner, who is more famously known as Scott Steiner and Big Poppa Pump.

Brock’s uncle, Rick Steiner, was his father’s tag team partner, and his first cousin, Bronson Rechsteiner, wrestles under the alias Bron Breakker.

Brock played wide receiver for the Jacksonville State Gamecocks.

He had 53 catches for 629 yards and seven touchdowns from 2023 to 2025, with 36 grabs for 383 yards and five scores in his final season playing college football.

He went unselected in the NFL draft, but the Tennessee Titans picked him up as an undrafted free agent.

However, that stint didn’t last very long, and he was later invited to the Saints’ rookie minicamp, where he signed as an undrafted rookie after rookie minicamp in May.

NFL career in doubt and desire to one day wrestle

What the latest news means for Rechsteiner’s career remains to be seen.

Pro Football Talk reports “it could mean the end of [his] NFL journey.

Previously, Rechsteiner said he plans to pursue a professional wrestling career after his NFL career comes to an end.

“I want to pursue football a long as I can, play as long as I can, but once I’m done, I’ll get into wrestling, too,” Rechsteiner said via WDSU-TV’s Sharief Ishaq.

Brock and his brother Brandon signed a WWE Next In Line (NIL) deal in February 2025.

Brandon was a guard for the Colorado State Rams men’s basketball team and transferred to Kansas State after averaging 12 points per game.

Scott and his brother Rick both joined the WWE Hall of Fame in 2022.

During the 1980s and 1990s, they wrestled together as The Steiner Brothers, winning several tag team titles together, including the WWF Tag Team Championship and WCW World Tag Team Championship.

Scott is also a multiple-time world heavyweight wrestling champion across several flagship organizations.

Rick’s son Bronson played high school football and briefly joined the Baltimore Ravens as an undrafted free agent fullback.

However, his NFL career failed to take off, and he later joined WWE in 2021 under his ring name Bron Breakker.
