Pistons pull off largest road comeback this century in Game 6 vs. Magic

The Detroit Pistons had their backs against the wall entering Game 6 on Friday night. A loss on the road to the Orlando Magic would have ended their season in disappointing fashion. At halftime, a loss seemed inevitable. But Cade Cunningham and his teammates have made history with one of the most remarkable comebacks in recent memory.

The Pistons trailed 60-38 entering the third quarter. However, they went on an incredible run, holding Orlando to just 19 points in the second half. Cunningham dropped 32 points and 10 rebounds to lead Detroit to a 93-79 victory. And they will host Game 7 at Little Caesars Arena in Detroit.

This is a historic comeback, as well. Detroit has pulled off the largest road comeback by a team facing elimination since 1996-97, the NBA confirmed on Friday night.

The Pistons had momentum heading into Game 6 after a big win in Game 5. However, they struggled hard against the Magic to begin Friday night’s contest. In particular, the second quarter was difficult, as Detroit’s offense managed just 12 points.

Detroit began picking things up in the second half, though. And their defense truly began to shine. Cunningham certainly led the way, but he didn’t do it alone. Veteran Tobias Harris dropped 22 points to pick up his star guard. Duncan Robinson also contributed with 14 points of his own.

The Magic had a chance to make a massive statement by eliminating the East’s No. 1 seed. Now, momentum may have just swung Detroit’s way permanently. These teams will play for everything in Game 7 at Little Caesars Arena on Sunday.
