Pirates’ Ryan O’Hearn exits Phillies game with quad injury

The Pittsburgh Pirates are taking on the Philadelphia Phillies on Saturday with the hope of advancing to a 25-21 record. Unfortunately, Ryan O’Hearn was forced to leave the contest early due to a quad injury.

Reports indicate he experienced discomfort during the contest and is now being treated by the Pirates’ medical staff. He will not return to action, and his official status remains unknown.

“Ryan O’Hearn was removed from today’s game with right quad discomfort,” said the Pirates official account on X. “He is currently being evaluated and treated by the club’s medical staff.”

The 32-year-old slugger ended the day with one at-bat. He did not record a hit against the Phillies before sustaining the injury. Manager Don Kelly moved Jared Triolo from right field to first base to replace O’Hearn, then replaced Triolo with Nick Yorke in right field.

Hopefully, it is not a serious injury for Ryan O’Hearn, as the nine-year veteran has been a consistent bat for the Pirates all season. O’Hearn entered Saturday’s game against the Phillies with a .291 batting average and .370 OBP with 46 hits, seven home runs, and 29 RBIs through 158 at-bats.

The one-time All-Star is a new addition to the Pirates’ roster this season. He signed a two-year, $29 million deal with the franchise in the offseason after being traded from the Baltimore Orioles to the San Diego Padres before the deadline in the 2025 campaign.

Pittsburgh will likely provide more information about O’Hearn’s injury status after Saturday’s game at some point. Depending on his status, Kelly may have to make some adjustments to the lineup.
