Penguins’ veteran Erik Karlsson identifies who to blame for 2-0 Flyers series deficit
The Pittsburgh Penguins felt like they had the perfect mix to do something special this postseason. Time is running short for the trio of Sidney Crosby, Evgeni Malkin, and Kris Letang to go on one more Stanley Cup run together. Getting home-ice advantage heading into the postseason was a massive victory for a team that didn’t have playoff aspirations. Still, they now face a 2-0 deficit against their in-state rival, the Philadelphia Flyers.
Pittsburgh is a veteran-heavy team, which makes it difficult for anyone to count them out in this series. Despite facing what feels like an insurmountable comeback, they have enough pieces on their roster to figure out a way to get back in the series. Erik Karlsson said all the right things for those dreams after the Game 2 loss, according to Pens Inside Scoop via X, formerly Twitter.
“We got outplayed for two games at home. It hurts,” Karlsson said. “But we got no one else to blame but ourselves, and all we can do is take care of that and move forward.”
The veterans will have to figure out a way to slow down Flyers rookie sensation Porter Martone if they want to get back in the series. Martone has completely changed the look of the Philadelphia lineup, which is something Dan Muse’s Penguins couldn’t figure out in the first two games. Flyers head coach Rick Tocchet wanted the team to run the Penguins out of the building on the road, and for the most part, that physical strategy paid off.
