Pelicans’ Jeremiah Fears better listen to Stephon Castle’s advice after roller-coaster rookie season

The New Orleans Pelicans are hoping to take a step forward in 2026-27 after a rough last season that saw the team finish well below the postseason line in the Western Conference. Making matters worse, the Pelicans didn’t have a first-round pick in this year’s draft thanks to a previous trade with the Atlanta Hawks.

Thankfully, the Pelicans did have two of them in last year’s draft, including Jeremiah Fears, who had an up and down rookie season.

Fears has been one of the NBA’s player correspondents for the ongoing NBA Finals between the New York Knicks and San Antonio Spurs, and recently, he asked Spurs guard Stephon Castle what adjustments he made between his rookie and sophomore seasons in the NBA.

“I think just trying to find things on the court that you’re good at and not really chasing numbers or getting too high or getting too low. I think just try to find the things that you’re good at and master them first and then you’ll realize what kind of player you’ll be in this league,” said Castle, per Kris Pursiainen of ClutchPoints on X, formerly Twitter.

Castle has played a huge role in the Spurs’ march to the Finals, playing elite defense and expanding his offensive game, all while showing impressive poise in tough situations in these playoffs.

Meanwhile, Fears is hoping to continue adding to his game heading into next year. There’s no doubting the Pelicans guard’s scoring ability, but he’ll need to bring some of the other parts of his game along for the ride in order to carve out a real role for himself in the league.

The Pelicans will hit the floor for the 2026-27 season in October.
