Pat McAfee makes bold USMNT World Cup declaration during Australia tilt

Pat McAfee decided to be bold with his prediction towards the USMNT’s chances of winning the 2026 FIFA World Cup on Friday during their match against Australia.

Going into the contest, the U.S. were riding high on momentum after torching Paraguay 4-1 in the group opener. This ramped up the excitement level towards the national team, having a lot of attention on them going into Matchday 2 against Australia.

They were up to the challenge, having seen Australia stun Turkiye 2-0 in Matchday 1. The team understood that a win punches their ticket to the knockout stage, making the match a crucial one.

McAfee observed the game as he expressed his thoughts on social media during the contest. One of his takes garnered attention as he believes they are going to reach the mountaintop in this tournament.

“USA IS GONNA WIN THE WORLD CUP,” McAfee said.

How USMNT played against Australia

Pat McAfee is being patriotic towards his support for the USMNT. To be fair, they are playing incredible well as one of the three hosts of the 2026 World Cup. On top of that, they took care of business after beating Australia by a 2-0 score.

The Americans opened the scoring after Australia conceded an own goal. It took until the 43rd minute for the U.S. to score its last goal of the day, seeing Alex Freeman fire the shot into the net as he and the team celebrated after officials confirmed the goal.

The U.S. maintain their place at the top of the Group D standings, being above Australia, Turkiye and Paraguay. With six points and counting, they need other results to completely secure first place in the group and have a solid pathway in the knockout stage bracket.

The USMNT looks forward to finishing group play on a strong note. They take on Turkiye as kickoff is set for June 25 at 10 p.m. ET.
