Paolo Di Canio goes viral for smashing his head against a table repeatedly on live TV

Premier League legend Paolo Di Canio has gone viral in Italy for repeatedly headbutting a table during punditry.

The former Italian international is a regular on coverage of games in his home country on Sky.

The incident happened after a fiery back and forth between himself and presenter Federica Masolin on Sky Sports Italy’s coverage of the Champions League last night.

Di Canio banged his head on the table three times before staggering away with everyone in the studio stunned.

Former England manager Fabio Capello gave Di Canio a handkerchief to clean up his face after cutting himself.

Host Masolin was also pretty surprised by what she’d seen but found the funny side of it as well, laughing as Di Canio sat back down with a tissue on his head.

Unsurprisingly, the footage of Di Canio went viral and drew a reaction from several people.

One fan said: “I bet he was a great manager, imagine the rants.”

Another commented: “He always used to seem so chill.”

And one more said: “King.”

Di Canio’s antics

Di Canio was certainly an interesting player and manager with several controversial moments throughout his career.

But for his ability to be a total maverick, the Italian became a cult hero for West Ham at Upton Park.

Yet sprinkled amongst the brilliance, there was also plenty of controversy.

Di Canio once pushed over referee Paul Alcock while playing for Sheffield Wednesday in the 1998/99 season.

He received an 11-match ban and a fine of £10,000, which was hefty at the time.

Then while playing for West Ham during a massive game against Bradford City, Di Canio demanded to be substituted after being denied three penalties.

Harry Redknapp decided not to, and when the Hammers were finally awarded one, Di Canio moved Frank Lampard out of the way and stepped up and scored.

Then as a manager, Di Canio took over at Swindon Town in 2011 and stayed until 2013.

It was a very impressive as he stormed to the League Two title and then had them top of League One before Sunderland came calling.

The Italian won the Tyne-Wear derby 3-0 at St James’ Park and kept the Black Cats in the Premier League.

He then brought in some terrible players and was sacked after just five games of the 2013/14 campaign due to Sunderland losing four of their first five.

Di Canio hasn’t managed since, but it’s good to see that he’s still as crazy as ever.
