Padres’ Nick Pivetta breaks silence after landing on IL
The San Diego Padres recently placed starting pitcher Nick Pivetta on the injured list with an elbow injury. The pitcher is dealing with right elbow inflammation. AJ Cassavell of MLB.com shared what Pivetta said about the situation on Wednesday.
“Nick Pivetta (elbow) is shut down. ‘Going to take time to rest, allow some healing to happen,’ he said. He wouldn’t discuss specifics of his MRI, but said he’s confident he’ll be back this season. When asked if surgery could be on the table he said he’s ‘focusing on rehab,'” Cassavell wrote on X, formerly Twitter.
An injury timeline has yet to be revealed. It could be a while before he returns, but Pivetta is hoping to return at some point during the 2026 MLB season.
Anytime the word “elbow” and “pitcher” are used in the same sentence, there is reason for concern. It seems as if Pivetta may have avoided a worst scenario with his elbow injury, but updates will continue to be provided on his status.
The good news is that the Padres are playing well in 2026. The ball club is 11-6 and in second place in the National League West standings heading into their game on Wednesday against the Seattle Mariners. San Diego currently trails the 13-4 Los Angeles Dodgers by two games in the NL West.
Keeping up with the Dodgers all season long will be a challenge. The Padres will do the best they can. For now, their focus is on Wednesday’s contest, which is scheduled for 9:40 PM EST in San Diego.
