Luis de la Fuente’s star studded side have been handed a kind draw having been in the Group of Death with Germany in Qatar, starting their campaign with matches against tournament debutants Cape Verde and Saudi Arabia in Atlanta, before ending their group stage with a match against Uruguay in Guadalajara.
Brazil are the World Cup’s most successful team having won lifted the trophy or more occasions than any other country, but it’s now been 24 years since their fifth and most recent title.
Having only reached the semi final on one occasion since 2002, Brazil are now managed by record five-time Champions League winning manager Carlo Ancelotti, trying his hand at international management for the first time.
This year, Ancelotti’s side have been drawn alongside Morocco, Scotland and Haiti and boast one of the strongest spines to their starting XI in the tournament and, roared on by the Latin American crowd, will fancy themselves at making a deep run into the tournament this summer.
Argentina, as reigning champions and boasting the starpower of Lionel Messi, Portugal, who have one of the strongest squads in the tournament and have Cristiano Ronaldo aiming to win his first World Cup title in his sixth, and surely final, edition, are among just two other nations who cannot be counted out.
