Packers’ Tucker Kraft makes bold TE1 declaration amid injury recovery

The Green Bay Packers had one of the most talented teams in the NFL last season, and fans saw that when they were healthy. Unfortunately, by the end of the season, injuries had completely depleted the Green Bay roster, leaving them barren in a Wild Card Round loss.

One of the most serious injuries of that bunch was to tight end Tucker Kraft, who suffered a torn ACL after playing just eight games last season. This offseason, Kraft has looked like he is getting healthier and is on a good schedule with his rehab as he targets a Week 1 return from the injury.

On Wednesday at Packers mandatory minicamp, Kraft made a bold declaration, stating that he was the best tight end in football before the injury last season, via Ryan Wood of USA Today.

“I thought at the combination of the do-it-all Y, which is me, that there wasn’t another guy in the league that was doing it as well as I was,” Kraft said. “Some people might think I’m delusional to say that, but every play I was either – I don’t know. The film is going to speak for itself. Outside zone, inside zone, screen game, down the field, just as far as putting it all together, I felt like I was in a great spot.”

The numbers back up that Kraft was emerging as a true superstar last season. In eight games, he had 32 catches for 489 yards and six touchdowns, putting him on pace for a 1,000-yard season with a touchdown number in the double digits. Kraft is also a good blocker who unlocks the Packers running game, making him a critical piece of Matt LaFleur’s offense.

The Packers have done a lot of work to solidify their core on offense this offseason, as both Jayden Reed and Christian Watson have received contract extensions. Kraft is next in line and may very well get paid a lot of money before next season. Based on Kraft’s confidence, he is fully prepared to back that up once he gets back on the field.
