Packers insider puts Matt LaFleur squarely on hot seat with top-10 list

The Green Bay Packers are not quite in Super Bowl or bust mode, but there could be some changes made to the team if they don’t make strides this season. Over the past few years, they’ve added talent that should help them get to the next level, but it seems as if they always fall short.

Matt Schneidman of The Athletic recently wrote a piece about the 10 Packers under the most pressure this season, and at the top of the list is Matt LaFleur.

“Who knows what stipulations are in LaFleur’s new contract regarding what happens if he doesn’t win enough in the near future? There may or may not be pressure on the head coach in that regard, but the intangible pressure from both inside and outside the building should be palpable,” Schneidman wrote. The Packers haven’t made the Super Bowl since the 2010 season, haven’t made the NFC Championship Game since the 2020 season, haven’t won the division since the 2021 season and have earned just the No. 7 playoff seed in each of the last three seasons.

“After inking a long-term contract extension this offseason, LaFleur needs to deliver now for one of the most storied franchises.”

After last season’s finish, there was uncertainty about whether the Packers would bring back LaFleur, but they committed to him. It might be now or never for him, or he could genuinely be on the hot seat.

The Packers haven’t had much playoff success over the past years, and they may have to make a deep run if LaFleur wants to survive past this season. There’s no doubt that they have the roster to be a top team, but they’re going to have to put it all together in order for them to see results on the field.

If not, there’s no telling what could happen in the future.
