Packers bold predictions for 2026 NFL Draft class during rookie season

The Green Bay Packers feel as though they’re just a few missing pieces away from once again bringing the Lombardi Trophy to its rightful home in Titletown. To the satisfaction of many fans and experts, all of those key needs were addressed at the 2026 NFL Draft as General Manager Brian Gutekunst seemingly hit another grand slam with his slate of rookie picks.

Still, the expectations are always high in Green Bay and with all these positive changes coming at once, it’s Super Bowl or bust over these next few seasons. Wearing a Packers’ uniform comes with the territory of working one’s way through the rankings and developing within the franchise’s proven system. While rookies generally take some time to evolve in Green Bay, this crop of incoming talent may be expected to make an immediate impact.

With fans buzzing around this incoming rookie class, we’ll dive deeper and make some bold predictions for how far these prospects can take their new team.

Brandon Cisse (DB, South Carolina) will become DB1.

Green Bay addressed their biggest need in cornerback with their first pick in the second round. Since the departure of former All-Pro Jaire Alexander, the Packers have lacked a superstar at the position for quite some time. They’ve also made an obvious effort to bolster the pass rush with Micah Parsons and spent their third pick in the draft on fellow Nittany Lion DE Dani Dennis-Sutton, so it only makes sense that their pass protection can keep pace and make Jonathan Gannon’s defense virtually unstoppable.

Of course, fifth-year Packers’ vet Keisean Nixon has risen to the occasion as the lead lockdown cornerback along with Carrington Valentine emerging through the depth chart on the opposite side. However, both players are entering the final year of their contracts and Brandon Cisse could potentially inherit this cornerback room within the next season.

While all rookies are a work-in-progress, Cisse has displayed great maturity and knowledge of the game, something the Packers pride themselves on knowing they can unleash his potential. His 4.41 40-yard time fits right into this defense and given the volatility of the cornerback position, Cisse will have ample opportunities to prove why he’s the best cover corner on the roster.

Chris McClellan (DT, Missouri) and Dani Dennis-Sutton (EDGE, Penn State) make Green Bay’s defensive line unstoppable.

With a concerted effort to make the defensive line the strongest part of this Packers’ roster, the team can’t rest on their laurels and expect Micah Parsons to get the job done all by himself. He draws the most double-teams out of any player in the NFL, meaning DE Lukas Van Ness will have to have a breakout year on the opposite side. The addition of veteran DT Javon Hargrave will be huge for their interior pass rush and fifth-year Packer DT Devonte Wyatt is poised for a breakout year.

While these two rookies may not see many starts, they’ll be integral in keeping the starters fresh and logging valuable snaps during long drives deep in the game. Incoming defensive coordinator Jonathan Gannon loves to get after the quarterback and will have a ton of weapons at his disposal, so expect both incoming rookies to have a huge part in making a difference intermittently throughout each game.

Led by Micah Parsons, the defensive line room should be a feared one with incoming veterans like Hargrave and LB Zaire Franklin providing a presence in the locker room for the rookies.

Trey Smack (K, Florida) will be Green Bay’s next great kicker.

Packers’ great Mason Crosby served as Green Bay’s trusty kicker for 16 seasons, becoming the franchise’s all-time leader in points scored and winning Super Bowl XLV in 2011. Since his departure in following the 2022 season, the Packers have gone through 15 (yes, 15) starting kickers and have had a number of key opportunities slip away due to inconsistencies at the position. Last year, the Packers ranked 28th in the NFL with a 77.78% FG conversion rate.

Enter sixth-round pick Trey Smack out of Florida who, in three-years as the Gators’ starter, posted a 82.81% career field goal percentage. He went 10 of 13 on his attempts from 50 or more yards with his collegiate long coming in at 56 yards. While he may not bolster the biggest boot, he’s conditioned to perform in big moments coming from an SEC powerhouse and will have the starting job at his fingertips if he can just remain consistent. With a name like “Smack,” something tells us the Packers may have found their next longtime kicker.
