Orioles’ Pete Alonso hits impressive offensive mark for the sixth-straight season

The Baltimore Orioles signed Pete Alonso before this season, hoping he could provide needed power in their lineup. Baltimore had an intriguing core at the time, with Adley Rutschman and Gunnar Henderson leading the way. The core isn’t quite the same anymore, but Alonso has lived up to his end of the bargain.

Baltimore was tied with the Tampa Bay Rays on Friday night when Alonso came to the plate. The veteran slugger had a runner on first with two outs. He saw a low fastball on a 2-2 count, and he caught all of it. The Polar Bear sent the ball over the left field wall for a go-ahead home run, giving him his sixth-straight 30-home run season.

The Orioles have not had the strongest season in 2026. In fact, the team has largely disappointed overall. Baltimore’s 61-67 record entering play Friday was good for last in the American League East. Despite this, the team finds itself just two games out of the final Wild Card spot in the American League.

Alonso, as mentioned, has been a force for Baltimore this year. The 31-year-old now has 30 home runs and 84 runs batted in on the season. He entered Friday’s game with the Rays slashing .269/.360/.498 while owning an .858 OPS.

The Orioles still have a chance to make the playoffs in 2026. It will take a mighty effort from all involved, but it’s clear Alonso has the ability to help carry the load offensively. If his bat can stay hot, Baltimore certainly has a chance to go on a run at the end of the season and sneak into October.
