Orioles’ Colton Cowser walks off Rays in 13th inning

The Baltimore Orioles had a thrilling start to their three-game series at home against the Tampa Bay Rays.

Thanks in large part to Colton Cowser, the Orioles came away with a win to begin the Rays series at Oriole Park at Camden Yards in Baltimore on Monday. Cowser played the role of the hero for Baltimore in that contest, as he hit a walk-off home run in the 13th inning to end a marathon of a game and give the Orioles a 9-7 victory.

The 26-year-old Cowser lifted the home run off the fourth offering from Tampa Bay reliever Jesse Scholtens. Cowser got ahead in his faceoff with Scholtens with a ball on the first pitch, followed by a foul ball. He got another ball on the third pitch before crushing an 89 mph slider for a two-run home, game-winning walk-off blast.

The Rays were on track to put the game away after building a two-run lead in the top of the 13th inning, but Cowser made sure that it was Baltimore that would come out on top in the game.

Cowser went 1-for-4 in the contest, as the Orioles picked up their 24th win of the season against 30 losses and their third victory in the last four outings.

That home run was also just the third of the season and 43rd overall in his career in the big leagues for Cowser, who has been struggling at the plate in the 2026 MLB season. More notably, it was the second walk-off home run by Cowser in as many days, as he hit one as well in the Orioles’ 5-3 triumph over the Detroit Tigers at home on Sunday.

Nevertheless, he had a memorable day in the series opener against the Rays.

Cowser entered the Tampa Bay series hitting .198/.288/.286.
