Olivia Miles’ record-setting game leaves Sparks coach tipping cap after failed attempts to stop her
The Minnesota Lynx got another huge victory on Wednesday night. Minnesota defeated Los Angeles 99-83 in a game where rookie Olivia Miles was the biggest star on the court. Miles played such a good game that the opposing coach could not help but sign her praises.
Sparks head coach Lynne Roberts complimented the rookie guard after her incredible performance.
“She’s good,” Roberts said, per ESPN. “She’s talented, and it’s what I said pregame, she’s super skilled, so we were trying to mix things up. We didn’t execute it exactly how we hoped to all the time. But you have to just tip your hat to her. She’s a great player with a lot of skill. Her ballhandling and vision is what separates her.”
Miles has been on an incredible hot streak to start her WNBA career. She kept up that high level of play against the Sparks.
Miles was the best player on either team, finishing the game with 31 points, four rebounds, and four assists in 26 minutes on the court. 31 points is a career high for Miles and the most points scored by a rookie in a game during the 2026 season.
But Miles was especially effective during the first half. She scored 24 points in the first 20 minutes of the game, setting a WNBA rookie record for most points scored in a half.
The Sparks did not have Kelsey Plum while she recovers from a lower leg injury. Still, it was impressive that the Lynx were able to secure a double-digit win.
Minnesota is now 12-3 on the season and sits atop the WNBA standings. They are in a very comfortable position as the midpoint of the season inches closer and closer.
Next up for the Lynx is a road game against the Valkyries on June 19th at 10PM ET.
