Ole Miss football under investigation for transfer violations

It’s been a hectic time for Ole Miss football. Last year, they witnessed the abrupt departure of Lane Kiffin as head coach. Now they are at the mercy of the NCAA.

On Friday, it was announced that the program was under investigation by the NCAA and the College Sports Commission for alleged transfer violations, per Matt Baker of The Athletic. The NCAA investigation stems from allegations of high-level tampering against Clemson. Meanwhile, the CSC investigation is into violations of NIL rules.

According to an investigation by ESPN, documents obtained through an open-records request, an NCAA staffer emailed Ole Miss senior associate athletic director for compliance, Taylor Hall, on Jan. 23. The email was sent out a couple of hours before Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney openly accused Ole Miss head coach Pete Golding of tampering with linebacker Luke Ferrilli.

Ferrilli transferred from Clemson to Cal and then to Ole Miss. At the time, the NCAA opened the investigation into Clemson.

Meanwhile, the issue of tampering isn’t a concern for the CSC. The CSC, established following the House settlement that allowed schools to pay players, is still a work in progress.

As the NCAA inquired into the Rebels for the other allegation, the CSC reached out over a transfer’s NIL deals.

Hall responded to an email on Feb 11: “Is there anything else specifically that I need to ask him about? We are committed to being transparent and want to ensure our reporting obligations are satisfied.”

The CSC sent a request to interview the player over alleged violations of NIL agreement rules.
