Nuggets rumors: Coaching change is coming, but it’s not firing David Adelman

As rumors surround the Denver Nuggets regarding the type of moves the team can make this offseason, there are some fans wondering if a change in the coaching staff is needed. While some have wondered if Nuggets head coach David Adelman is in danger of being fired, this latest report signals that he is safe.

According to Jake Fischer of The Stein Line, a “change” is coming soon in Denver, though the roster isn’t the only aspect that’s being made different. While the Nuggets “have indeed publicly backed” Adelman, the hope is that the team wants to “install a former NBA head coach as a top assistant.”

“Change in Denver, league sources say, will not be limited to the roster,” Fischer wrote. “The Nuggets have indeed publicly backed David Adelman to return for his second full season as their coach in 2026-27, but The Stein Line has learned that Denver is actively seeking to install a former NBA head coach as a top assistant on Adelman’s staff to provide an injection of experience.”

David Adelamn staying with the Nuggets has been consistent 

Reported back on May 3 by ClutchPoints’ NBA insider Brett Siegel, there is “no internal feeling” that the Nuggets will move away from Adelman, as growing pains were had.

“Despite some of the growing pains he will face with this team and the mentality of constantly being a title contender with Jokic, there has been no internal feeling at this very moment that Denver will move in a different direction regarding the young head coach this offseason, league sources told ClutchPoints,” Siegel wrote.

At any rate, it remains to be seen who the top assistant in Adelman’s staff will be after the Nuggets finished with a 54-28 record, finishing third in the West, but being eliminated by the Minnesota Timberwolves in six games in the first round of the playoffs.
