Noah Ostlund achieves rookie Sabres feat not seen in over 15 years

The Buffalo Sabres fell in Game 2 to the Boston Bruins, and are hoping to get back on track on Thursday. The Sabres won Game 1, their first playoff win in over a decade. Another longstanding franchise feat came to fruition on Thursday thanks to rookie forward Noah Ostlund.

Ostlund provided an assist on Bowen Byram’s game-tying goal in the second period. This is his first point not only of this postseason, but it’s the first postseason point of his career. It was also a highlight reel point from the young forward.

As mentioned, this assist achieved a feat not seen in a while. Ostlund is the first Sabres rookie to record a point in his postseason debut since 2010, the team confirmed on social media. The last player who did it was Nathan Gerbe, who recorded his first career playoff point against the Bruins, in fact.

Ostlund played in his first full NHL season this year. He skated in 60 games for the Sabres, serving in a depth role. He scored 11 goals and 27 points as he helped Buffalo make the postseason. Not only did the team snap its 14-season playoff drought, but they also won the Atlantic Division for the first time since the division realignment in 2014.

The Sabres and Bruins are currently deadlocked 1-1 entering the third period. The winner of this contest will take an important 2-1 series lead. And they will carry a ton of momentum heading into Game 4. It will certainly be interesting to see if Ostlund and the Sabres can come out of this contest with an all-important win.
