The Montreal Canadiens trailed a couple times early in Game 5. However, they did not despair and were ready to take the game over when the moment came. The Habs won Game 5 by the score of 6-3 to grab all the momentum heading back north of the border for Game 6.

Nick Suzuki and Juraj Slafkovsky led the way for the Canadiens in Game 5. Suzuki scored a goal and added an assist in this contest. Slafkovsky, meanwhile, added three assists in the win for Montreal. Goaltender Jakub Dobes was also strong, stopping 32 of 35 shots.

With this victory, the Canadiens have pushed the Sabres to the brink of elimination.

The Sabres opened the scoring when Jason Zucker scored on a deflection to make it 1-0. These teams proceeded to trade goals in a chaotic first period of play. Buffalo went to the locker room holding a 3-2 lead after the first intermission.

Much like the Canadiens did in Game 3, Montreal dominated the second period. They scored three goals in the middle frame to swing momentum well in their favor. In the third period, Ivan Demidov scored his first career playoff goal to cement the win for Montreal.

The Sabres are once again dealing with an issue regarding goaltending. Buffalo has not been able to keep the puck out of their own net for much of this series. This is the third time in their last four games that they have allowed five or more goals.

Buffalo has one more chance to keep its season alive in Game 6. For the Canadiens, they have the chance to play in their first East Final since 2014. The Canadiens and Sabres return to the ice for Game 6 on Saturday night at the Bell Centre in Montreal.
