The Atlanta Falcons and New Orleans Saints will meet on Monday Night Football in Week 4 of the 2026 NFL season as the league commemorates the 20-year anniversary of the iconic “Domecoming” game following Hurricane Katrina.

NFL Network insider Jordan Schultz reported the scheduling decision Thursday on X, formerly known as Twitter.

“The NFL will have Falcons-Saints at the Superdome on Monday Night Football in Week 4 to commemorate the 20-year anniversary of the ‘Domecoming’ game, which was the Saints first game back in New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina, when they beat the Falcons,” Schultz wrote.

The original “Domecoming” game took place on Sept. 25, 2006, when the Saints returned to the Superdome after Hurricane Katrina displaced the franchise for the entire 2005 season. The emotional nationally televised matchup became one of the most memorable moments in league history, highlighted by Steve Gleason’s blocked punt early in the game that helped propel New Orleans to victory.

Two decades later, the NFL is revisiting that historic rivalry in a prime-time setting with both franchises entering significantly different eras.

Atlanta enters the 2026 season amid major changes after signing quarterback Tua Tagovailoa shortly following his release from the Miami Dolphins. Tagovailoa is currently favored to lead the Falcons over former first-round pick Michael Penix Jr. heading into the season, adding another storyline to Atlanta’s campaign.

The Saints, meanwhile, continue building under their current core while preparing for another pivotal NFC South season. The rivalry between New Orleans and Atlanta remains one of the NFL’s most intense divisional matchups, and the anniversary setting is expected to add further emotion to the contest.

The NFL officially released the full 2026 regular-season schedule this week, with several marquee prime-time matchups spread throughout the season. However, the Week 4 meeting between the Falcons and Saints stands out because of its historical significance tied to one of the league’s defining post-disaster moments.

By returning the matchup to the Superdome under the lights of Monday Night Football, the league is recognizing a game that transcended football and became a symbol of New Orleans’ recovery and resilience following Hurricane Katrina.
