NFL rumors: Browns-Cowboys NFL Draft trade buzz going around league

The NFL Draft is nearing, and rumors are running rampant. It appears the buzz going around the league right now is that the Cleveland Browns and Dallas Cowboys might be open for business come draft night.

In the latest intel scoop from ESPN’s Matt Miller, Jordan Reid, and NFL Nation, they claim that the Browns might be looking to trade back in the Draft. The No. 6 pick overall will be enticing to numerous teams, and ESPN’s list of Insiders thinks the Cowboys could be in the mix to make a deal with Cleveland.

“It’s difficult to predict what Cleveland will do… but chatter around the league is that wide receiver is in play at No. 6,” said Miller. “Carnell Tate (Ohio State) is the name most often associated with the Browns. It should be noted that some leaguewide sources believe the Browns would trade out from No. 6 to a team like Dallas, which is trying to move up for a pass rusher.”

The Cowboys are rumored to be focused on acquiring multiple defensive players in the 2026 NFL Draft. Unless there is a superstar-caliber prospect on the offensive side of the ball when Dallas is on the clock, speculation indicates Jerrry Jones and the front office want to add a linebacker, a cornerback, and a pass rusher. It sounds like there are at least two top prospects the franchise could consider trading up for.

“Trading up continues to be a possibility, especially if there’s a player they have high on their board who backslides a tad,” said Reid. “Safety Caleb Downs (Ohio State) and edge rusher Rueben Bain Jr. (Miami) are believed to be players whom the Cowboys would maneuver for, as Dallas reportedly sees both as instant-impact game changers on defense.”

We won’t know how the NFL Draft plays out until the first round begins on April 23. The Browns and Cowboys both own two first-round picks. Cleveland has nine total selections with four in the top 70, while Dallas has eight total selections with three in the top 92.
