Next Salford manager odds: Sir Alex Ferguson’s son Darren now favourite

Salford City’s relationship with Manchester United continues and there could be more links to the Premier League club as Sir Alex Ferguson’s son Darren is the favourite to be the next manager.

David Beckham and Gary Neville completed a takeover of Salford City last month and could be aiming for more with this potential appointment after the club lost 3-0 in the League Two Play-Off Final against Notts County.

Salford finished just six points off of top-placed side Bromley in a closely contested League Two campaign.

They finished fourth and had to settle for a play-off battle, but it ended in Wembley heartbreak as they were stunned to a tough loss.

The club decided to sack Karl Robinson earlier this week just nine days after such defeat.

Now they’re on the hunt for a new manager which so far, has further ties with Manchester United as Ferguson, former Peterborough United boss is the big favourite.

But the odds also suggest the other candidates are not ruled out at all at short prices, including Darren Moore and David Artell.

Steve Bruce is also a surprise at 10/1 with a whole host of options just at 12/1 with talks likely to commence soon, where either one of these potential managers could be hammered in the next Salford City manager market.

Ferguson has been manager for the Posh on four separate occasions between 2007-2009, then in 2011-2015, then again between 2019-2022 and for the fourth and final time in 2023-2025.

As a player he was mostly remembered playing for Wrexham between 1999-2007 where he made 310 appearances and 51 goals.

Each stint with Peterborough as a manager saw him oversee a minimum of 145 games.

His latest ended in a sacking shortly after the start of the 2025/26 campaign while they were bottom of the table after 13 games played.

On his third stint with the club, he resigned via a call while they were struggling in a relegation battle in February 2022.

He did however guide them to promotion to the Championship in the 2020/21 season but were relegated the following season back down to League One.
