NBA takes action with Spurs fan who taunted Knicks’ Jalen Brunson in Game 1
Upon reviewing an incident at the end of Game 1 of the NBA Finals involving New York Knicks star Jalen Brunson and two San Antonio Spurs fans sitting courtside, the NBA has decided to take action.
While the fan was not a season-ticket holder sitting courtside, his vulgar language directed at Brunson was enough for the league to step in. On Friday, before Game 2 of the NBA Finals, a league spokesperson told Knicks reporter Ian Begley that this fan is no longer permitted to sit courtside in this series.
“The fan was not a season ticket holder,” the spokesperson told Begley. “And if he were to attend another game in this series, he would not be permitted to sit in courtside seats.”
Originally, on Thursday, multiple outlets reported that the NBA planned to investigate what exactly happened after learning that vulgar “flopping” language was directed at Brunson by the crowd.
At the conclusion of Game 1, Brunson was seen approaching head official Scott Foster, clearly annoyed and unhappy with what was being said next to them. Neither Foster nor Brunson commented on the matter, with the Knicks guard telling reporters that he was “all good about talking about that.”
The incident between Brunson and the fans happened with about 20 seconds remaining in Game 1 on Wednesday, which is why Brunson reacted the way he did at the end of the game.

This wasn’t the only fan drama to come from the first game of the 2026 NBA Finals, as a fan also ran out onto the court in the second half before quickly being apprehended by San Antonio security. Both the fan who ran on the court and someone else associated with him were banned for life from all 30 NBA arenas, with the one who ran onto the court facing criminal charges.
As for Brunson and his incident, it appears as if the matter has now been resolved. It is unknown if the fan causing a problem with the Knicks guard will be in attendance for Game 2 on Friday night.
