NBA rumors: Mavericks draft trade chatter heats up
It’s the midst of the NBA Finals right now, but the NBA Draft is less than two weeks away. For the 28 teams that are not in the Finals, it’s all about draft preparation at this moment. For a team like the Dallas Mavericks, a new front office has the opportunity to potentially add another franchise cornerstone via the NBA Draft and could look to engineer a trade.
With Masai Ujiri at the helm as team president, the Mavericks are reportedly open to a trade to move up or back in the NBA Draft, as per Jake L. Fischer of The Stein Line.
“Sources say that the Mavericks, however, have told rival teams that they are very much open for trades in either direction with their No. 9 pick,” Fischer reports.
However, while the Mavericks may be open to deals regarding their pick, it’s possible that they keep it and target Arizona guard Brayden Burries, as per ClutchPoints’ NBA insider Brett Siegel. It’s been rumored that Burries’ representation is trying to steer him to the Mavericks and he does fit well with the roster.
But the team is also reportedly exploring their options where someone like Cameron Carr and Kingston Flemings, or someone who slips from the early lottery, is in the mix at No. 9, per Siegel.
But perhaps of more immediate concern for the Mavericks is a new head coach. Following the organization’s decision to part ways with Jason Kidd, they still do not have a replacement. It would be best if they were able to fill that position by the time the draft comes around.
