NBA rumors: Insider reveals reality of Jaylen Brown for Giannis trade buzz

The Boston Celtics’ incredible season came to a disappointing end after choking away a 3-1 lead and losing Game 7 to the Philadelphia 76ers in the Eastern Conference Semifinals. With the Celtics potentially looking to retool the roster this offseason, could a trade for Milwaukee Bucks superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo, and involving Jaylen Brown, potentially be on the horizon?

Well not so fast, as per NBA insider Jake L. Fischer of The Stein Line. Fischer reports that while the Celtics expressed trade interest in Giannis Antetokounmpo around the trade deadline, it was more exploratory rather than concrete. To top it off, there doesn’t appear to be any interest on Giannis’ part in going to the Celtics.

“I never got the sense that Boston was a certified suitor for Antetokounmpo. Nor did I get any indication that Giannis was seriously moved by the idea of joining the Celtics, where as his curiosity about playing in New York for the Knicks (as we’ve reported previously) is indeed a thing,” Fischer reports.

The possibility of Jaylen Brown being the centerpiece for the Bucks in a potential Giannis trade with the Celtics also doesn’t make much sense from Milwaukee’s standpoint, as Fischer notes.

Just this past week, Brown reiterated his desire to remain with the Celtics long term. The No. 3 overall pick in the 2016 NBA Draft, Brown has played his whole career to this point with the franchise. He was the 2024 NBA Finals MVP, and this season, in the absence of Jayson Tatum, put up a MVP-caliber year.
