NBA rumors: Brian Windhorst puts foot down on Darryn Peterson

Former Kansas basketball star Darryn Peterson is getting a lot of NBA Draft buzz. Peterson is considered by many, including Clutchpoints, to be one of the top talents available in the 2026 Draft. ESPN reporter Brian Windhorst is making the case that Peterson will be one of the top two selections in the draft.

“Darryn Peterson will not get past two. He he will either go one or two, and I think it’s very open who could go one in in front of him. It could be him or AJ (Dybantsa),” Windhorst said, and reported by HoopsHype.

Peterson played one season at Kansas, where he averaged 20 points per game. He led the Jayhawks back to the NCAA tournament, where they lost in the Round of 32 to St. John’s.

Despite his talent, there are a lot of questions surrounding Peterson. He missed quite a few games at Kansas due to injuries. Peterson has reportedly been asked a lot about that at the draft combine.

When speaking with reporters at that event, the Kansas star said he has improved in some areas of his game.

“I didn’t have the same step that I had before,” Peterson said at the combine, per the Associated Press. “If one thing’s bad, something else improves. My shooting improved because of that.”

There is a lot of talent available in this year’s draft. Peterson joins AJ Dybantsa, Caleb Wilson, and Cameron Boozer as top prospects in this year’s draft from college. There are also plenty of other players, including Darius Acuff Jr., who are expected to be considered as lottery selections.

The Washington Wizards hold the no. 1 overall pick in the 2026 NBA Draft. The second pick belongs to the Utah Jazz. Time will tell if Peterson is indeed included in one of the top selections.

The NBA Draft begins on June 23.
