MLB rumors: Ketel Marte won’t be dealt at trade deadline despite Diamondbacks rumors

With a little over a third of the 2026 MLB season officially in the books, teams around baseball are looking in the mirror to see where they stand before the trade deadline, especially for teams like the Arizona Diamondbacks, who employ a certified star in the form of Ketel Marte.

While the D-Backs have been an unlikely success story of the 2026 season, sitting second in the NL West ahead of the San Diego Padres, the San Francisco Giants, and the Colorado Rockies with a 34-31 record, the Diamondbacks probably aren’t going to pass the Los Angeles Dodgers for first place, but should they go all-in on making the playoffs? Or would they be better off trading away a player like Marte now in order to set themselves up for bigger success in the future?

Well, while opinions may vary on that topic, it appears the Diamondbacks have made their pick, as reported by Francys Romero.

“Several industry sources have told me that Ketel Marte will not be traded to any other team,” Romero wrote. “I’ve also been told that there are currently no issues between Ketel and the D-backs, and that some of the stories circulating on social media are simply not true. As for the game in which he did not play against Ohtani, Marte was dealing with general body soreness, so there is nothing to be concerned about. ‘Marte isn’t going anywhere,’ one source said.”

A three-time All-Star who has consistently served as one of Arizona’s focal points since coming over from Seattle in 2017, Marte is the kind of two-way player that pretty much any contending team would like to add to their ranks mid-summer. And yet, as a presently contending team, it makes sense that the Diamondbacks would want to take this hot streak and let it ride, going all-in on only their third playoff run in the last decade.
