Mike Florio calls out Steelers’ Aaron Rodgers for ‘strangely combative response’

The Pittsburgh Steelers once again have quarterback Aaron Rodgers leading the team in 2026. At a recent press conference, Rodgers was asked about what he has been up to in Pittsburgh this summer. Rodgers was seen around town, even though he had yet to sign a deal with the team.

Rodgers gave a somewhat terse response to that question.

“I’m not gonna tell you what I do in my personal time. You already saw I went to that ice cream spot,” Rodgers said in response, per NBC Sports.

NFL commentator Mike Florio is responding to Rodgers’ statement, and is baffled by it. He even called it strangely combative.

“Why not just say something like, “I’ve been getting reacquainted with Pittsburgh”? Or maybe something like, “I’ve just been relaxing a little bit before getting back to work”?” Florio said.

The NFL analyst felt that the response was a missed opportunity for Rodgers.

“The reporter wasn’t trying to pry, or to play a game of “gotcha” with Rodgers. It was an innocent and innocuous question. It reflected honest curiosity. Rodgers came to town more than a week before signing his contract. The question created an opportunity for Rodgers to deliver a normal, human response,” Florio added.

Rodgers spent months considering retirement, following the 2025 NFL season. The veteran quarterback spent that season with the Steelers. Pittsburgh made the NFL Playoffs, but got blown out by the Houston Texans.

It was recently announced that Rodgers would sign one last NFL contract. He is headed back to Pittsburgh for one year. He is going to make up to $25 million.

Steelers fans hope that Rodgers can lead the team back to a Super Bowl. Pittsburgh has a new head coach in Mike McCarthy, who replaced Mike Tomlin. McCarthy and Rodgers already won a Super Bowl together in Green Bay.
