Mets’ Nick Morabito shares true feelings about MLB debut vs. Nationals
Jersey number controversy aside, Nick Morabito is coming into the New York Mets lineup to help fill in as they navigate some injury troubles.
While he alone won’t be changing the Mets’ fortunes amid a brutal start to the 2026 season, his status as one of the team’s bright young prospects gives the team hope moving forward. However, Morabito’s big-league debut, which came in left field, ended in defeat — with the Mets suffering a 9-6 loss to the Washington Nationals.
Morabito made his debut in the seventh spot of the Mets lineup and he went hitless in three at-bats. The 23-year-old doesn’t provide much pop from the outfield, but he has the ability to get on base, as evidenced by his 12.0 percent walk rate to start the season in Triple-A.
After the game, Morabito commented on how his debut went and how he felt after suiting up for the Mets’ big league team for the first time in his career.
“To be out there and get my feet wet. First game, it was pretty surreal just to be in that environment surrounded by these guys in DC, it was a lot of fun,” Morabito said, via SNY on X (formerly Twitter).

With Luis Robert about to come back from injury soon, the Mets should not have to rely on Morabito that heavily as he looks to acclimate to the big league level. Morabito isn’t exactly the type of high-level hitter the Mets need to jumpstart their offense amid their brutal 2026, but he can be a useful piece who can help fill for the team in the outfield amid some injury troubles.
There is plenty of time left for the Mets to turn their season around, and Morabito could very well end up playing a huge role in New York’s redemption arc after missing out on the postseason last year.
