Mets’ David Stearns wants to move on from Carlos Mendoza job security questions

The New York Mets have not had the season they wanted, and it has led to questions regarding the future of the team. Many have wondered if manager Carlos Mendoza’s job security is on the line, and David Stearn reiterated that he’s fine.

“I believe Mendoza does a good job; I like coming to work with him every day,” Stearns said. “I’m not going to address this every two weeks when I talk to you guys and I’ll leave it at that.”

As much as people may want to put the blame on Mendoza, the main issue might be the construction of the roster, which is a problem for Stearn.

Ken Rosenthal recently broke down the roster and doesn’t think that things are going to get better until they start playing better.

“Their roster construction is going to be a question until we see better performance,” Rosenhal said. “Well, going into the season, it wasn’t exactly a secret that Luis Robert Jr. had an injury history. Jorge Polanco played last year and played very well for the Seattle Mariners, but he, too, has an injury history. And then you look at the Marcus Semien trade, and we all understood what the Mets were doing, getting rid of five years of Nimmo’s contract to take on three years of Semien’s. Okay, but the problem is Semien hasn’t hit since 2023.”

The season is still quite young for the Mets, and anything can happen, but they need to have a sense of urgency sooner rather than later.
