Freddie Flintoff’s 18-year-old son hits stunning 65-ball maiden century in record breaking innings

Freddie Flintoff’s son, Rocky, hit his maiden century for Lancashire County Cricket Club in record-breaking style.

The 18-year-old son of England legend Freddie is following his dad’s footsteps by blowing people away at such a young age.

He smashed his century for Lancashire off just 65 balls as he took apart the opposition.

In the process, Rocky became the youngest player in Lancashire’s history to hit 100 in a List A game.

Lancashire reached 443 at the end of their innings, a record score for them in this format. In response, Somerset could only manage 269 all out.

Lancashire will now face former England captain Ben Stokes in the quarter-finals.

Stokes might have retired from international cricket, but he is still playing for Durham and has guided the north east side to the last eight. The match is set to take place on Friday at Old Trafford in Manchester.

Of the 443 that Lancashire scored, Flintoff contributed 123 off just 76 balls as he hit out to all parts of the ground.

The teenage sensation has continually broken records since his introduction to cricket. On his debut at just 16, he became the youngest player to play in the One Day Cup.

This came a week after becoming the youngest England Under-19s player to score a century.

It was soon followed by becoming the youngest England Lions player to score 100 in a match as well with dad watching on.

It came against Australia as Rocky beat his father’s record.

The future

Being Flintoff’s son comes with a lot of pressure from different angles.

Many people know him as an England cricket legend, but a lot of people recognise Flintoff Sr as a big TV personality, with stints on Top Gear, A League of their Own and Bullseye.

Rocky has stayed away from almost all media so far; there are very few interviews with him.

He is set to lose his dad’s guidance for the Lions with Flintoff has stepping away from that role.

However, those who know Rocky best have no doubt that he’s going to the top.

Chairman of Lancashire Russ Bradley compares Rocky’s breakthrough to being similar to his dad’s, saying last year: “I think Freddie was around the age of 14 or 15 when he first broke into the club’s first team, and he was clearly just better than everybody else.

“He just had the natural ability and he hit the ball harder than anyone else. There was no real weakness to pick out. He stood out. And now we’re seeing it again. It’s not just Rocky, his older brother [Corey] is a very, very good cricketer too.

“Playing against a bigger older brother has probably helped [Rocky] quite a bit. Rocky is a very level-headed lad but Lancashire and his family have protected him very well. He has been kept out of limelight, but you could always tell he was exceptionally talented.”
