Mercury star Alyssa Thomas joins Diana Taurasi club with eye-popping numbers
The Phoenix Mercury watched superstar Alyssa Thomas reach exclusive territory Monday night in Minneapolis despite a 104-100 loss to the Minnesota Lynx at the Target Center. Her all-around performance placed her alongside Diana Taurasi in a two-player club in WNBA history.
Thomas finished with 19 points, 12 assists, and eight boards throughout the tight contest, which featured 23 lead changes and a total of 13 ties. Kahleah Copper added 26 points, but the Lynx prevailed and won their third straight game at home.
The 12 assists carried Thomas past 2,000 for her career. She joined Taurasi as one of only two players in league history to record at least 4,000 points, 2,000 assists, and 2,000 rebounds.
After the final buzzer, the WNBA used its official account on X, formerly Twitter, to recognize her monumental achievement.
“Exclusive group
In tonight’s game, Alyssa Thomas logged 19 PTS, 12 AST, & 8 REB to join Diana Taurasi as the only players in WNBA History with 4000+ PTS, 2000+ AST, and 2000+ REB!”

Thomas has built her reputation on versatility. She initiates offense, rebounds in traffic, defends multiple positions, and directs possessions as one of the Mercury’s primary playmakers. Her ability to influence every phase of the game has made her one of the league’s most dependable all-around performers.
Her consistent production has also yielded the WNBA records for the most regular-season and playoff triple-doubles ever, further establishing her among the league’s most complete players.
The milestone came during another difficult result for Phoenix, which fell to 8-17 with its fourth consecutive loss. Thomas’ latest achievement provided a clear positive on a night when Minnesota’s Kayla McBride scored 37 points and Olivia Miles added 33.
Taurasi retired after the 2024 season as the WNBA’s career scoring leader following 20 seasons with Phoenix. Thomas now shares one of Taurasi’s rarest distinctions while continuing to shape her Mercury legacy.
Phoenix did not secure the victory, but the veteran forward once again turned a demanding game into league history. Her durability, vision, and all-around impact carried her into a club Taurasi once occupied all alone.
