Mavericks’ Naji Marshall posted exactly 1 word after Anthony Davis trade

On Wednesday afternoon, the Dallas Mavericks decided to shake things up by trading Anthony Davis and several other players to the Washington Wizards in exchange for a package centered around future draft compensation. The move ends Davis’ time in Dallas just over one year after the Luka Doncic trade amid the Mavericks’ turbulent 2025-26 season.

One person who seems to be surprised by the news is Davis’ Mavericks teammate and fellow trade candidate Naji Marshall, who took to X, formerly Twitter, with his blunt reaction to the news, which was first reported by ESPN NBA insider Shams Charania.

“Wow,” wrote Marshall on the platform.

Davis played in 29 games for the Mavericks since being traded there from the Los Angeles Lakers last year, and the dominant, defensive-focused team that former general manager Nico Harrison envisioned, anchored around Davis, unfortunately, never came to fruition.

Fortunately for Mavericks fans, the team lucked into the number one overall pick this past May, which they used to select Cooper Flagg. The former Duke standout has been excellent at the NBA level so far in his rookie season, especially in recent weeks, as he recently scored 49 points in a game against the Charlotte Hornets.

Now that the Mavericks have turned the page on the Davis era, it remains to be seen if they will make any other moves before this year’s deadline. The team is also awaiting the return of Kyrie Irving, who has been out of the lineup since March of last year with a torn ACL.

While the Davis experiment may have crashed and burned, the Mavericks’ new front office regime deserves credit for seeing the writing on the wall and cutting their losses, as opposed to letting things play out longer than necessary.

In any case, the NBA trade deadline is set for Thursday afternoon at 3:00 pm ET.
