Mat Ishbia gives blunt condition before Phoenix trades Devin Booker

Devin Booker is the heart and soul of the Phoenix Suns in this era, and Suns owner Mat Ishbia plans to keep him for the foreseeable future.

Mat Ishbia when asked if he can trade Devin Booker to the Detroit Pistons:

During a recent appearance, a fan asked when Ishbia would trade Booker to the Detroit Pistons. Ishbia responded simply in the video posted to social media, “When I’m dead… Devin Booker will never be a Detroit Piston.”

When the fan brought up the fact that Ishbia is from Michigan, he retorted, “I am from here and I don’t care about the Pistons at all,”

Ishbia’s lighthearted comments might dampen the hopes of Pistons fans and even other NBA fans around the nation who would hope for Booker to join their squad, but the Suns look to emerge as a contender in the Western Conference once again. The Suns had an impressive season in the 2025-2026 year, finishing with a 45-37 record to clinch a spot in the play-in tournament.

They ultimately secured the eighth seed, although they lost to the Portland Trail Blazers in the first game of the NBA Play-In tournament. They eventually beat the Golden State Warriors to enter the playoffs and face off against the defending champion Oklahoma City Thunder. They were ultimately swept.

Now the Suns have retooled around Booker, adding former Charlotte Hornets forward Miles Bridges and former Los Angeles Lakers sharpshooter Luke Kennard to the rotation in the hopes of building their identity as a well-rounded team that can clinch a spot as one of the top six teams in the league.
