Marlins make important Pete Fairbanks injury announcement on Wednesday
The Miami Marlins received a needed bullpen boost Wednesday after announcing closer Pete Fairbanks’ return from the 15-day injured list, while also revealing a setback involving pitching prospect Robby Snelling.
The Marlins enter the second game of a three-game road series vs. the Minnesota Twins at 19-23 and fourth in the National League East after a 2-0 loss Tuesday night. Although Miami recently picked up wins against the Los Angeles Dodgers, Baltimore Orioles, and Washington Nationals, inconsistent offense has continued slowing the club’s momentum. The Marlins have scored three runs or fewer in eight of their previous 15 games and have been shut out twice during that span.
The Marlins announced the roster moves Wednesday afternoon on X, formerly Twitter, alongside a graphic detailing the transactions.

The most significant development involved Fairbanks, who officially returned after missing time because of nerve irritation. The veteran closer signed a one-year, $13 million contract with the Marlins during the offseason following seven seasons with the Tampa Bay Rays.
The 32-year-old closer has endured an uneven start to the season, posting a 0-2 record with a 10.00 ERA, 13 strikeouts, and five saves across 10 appearances. Despite those struggles, the club still views the right-hander as an important late-inning option after he recorded a 2.83 ERA with 27 saves and 59 strikeouts in 61 appearances during the 2025 season.
Across eight MLB seasons, Fairbanks owns a career 3.41 ERA with 95 saves and 345 strikeouts. His return provides Miami with another experienced late-inning option as the club works to strengthen its bullpen during a difficult early-season stretch.
The encouraging news surrounding Fairbanks also arrived alongside another concerning injury update. Miami placed Snelling on the 15-day injured list with a left elbow UCL sprain shortly after the talented left-hander made his MLB debut last Friday. Snelling entered the season ranked as the organization’s No. 2 prospect.
Despite the Atlanta Braves’ strong 29-13 start atop the NL East, Miami remains within reach of the NL wild card race entering mid-May.
