Eagles’ Jalen Hurts gives Lane Johnson his flowers after ‘Last Dance’ declaration
When the 2026 NFL season comes to an end, it will most likely mark the end of Lane Johnson’s storied career with the Philadelphia Eagles.
The fourth overall pick in the 2013 NFL Draft, Johnson immediately found a home at right tackle and never looked back, surviving two head coach firings, countless offensive coordinators, and even an offensive line coaching change to become arguably the greatest player at his position in franchise history.
Reacting to Johnson’s big news while talking to reporters on Tuesday, Jalen Hurts gave his long-time teammate his flowers, as he not only established himself as the best right tackle of his generation but also played a pivotal role in QB1’s own development as a second-round pick out of Oklahoma.
“Lane is a special player. He’s had a very special career. And, you know, to get to know him and for him to immerse himself into my career and me developing, ever since I walked into Philly, working out together, the times we spent together, I take pride in those things,” Hurts said.
“And so, you know, I want to make sure it’s a special year for him. You know, I know it takes great courage to say this is the ‘Last Dance,’ going into it. And so, you know, I hope he gets everything that he desires out of this year.”
A pair of Sooners who began their college careers playing quarterback elsewhere, Johnson and Hurts have formed a connection that has been incredibly successful over their shared tenure in Philadelphia. While it will be unusual to see a Week 1 opening lineup without Johnson in his usual spot when he eventually hangs his cleats up for good, Hurts has a chance to send him off with a parade down Broad Street, which would be a pretty incredible ending to an all-time great career.
