Marcus Smart upgraded on injury report for Warriors clash

The Los Angeles Lakers visit the Golden State Warriors on Thursday, looking to snap a three-game losing streak, and veteran guard Marcus Smart is listed as questionable on the injury report. Smart has been dealing with an ankle injury and has missed the last eight games. Here’s everything we know about Marcus Smart’s injury status for the Lakers’ game against the Warriors.

Marcus Smart’s injury status vs. Warriors

Marcus Smart being upgraded to questionable doesn’t necessarily mean he will be back in the lineup for the Lakers, only that he’s probably trending in the right direction as far as being able to return soon. Prior to the Lakers’ most recent game against the Oklahoma City Thunder, head coach JJ Redick was optimistic that Smart could return this week.

“He was doing on court work, and he wanted to dial it back,” Redick said. “He had a great day today on the court and trending towards playing at some point this week.”

Smart was a bit of an under the radar signing in the offseason, but his impact for the Lakers has been well-documented, especially defensively. He’s appeared in 60 games, including 53 starts, at a little over 28 minutes per game. He’s averaging 9.5 points, 2.8 rebounds, 2.8 assists and 1.4 steals with splits of 39.9 percent shooting from the field, 33.6 percent shooting from the 3-point line and 81.6 percent shooting from the free-throw line.
