Marc Guehi slams FIFA over ‘rubbish’ World Cup decision: ‘Don’t know what they were thinking’

England star Marc Guehi has hit out at FIFA for their ‘rubbish’ ticket prices at the World Cup.

Costs for supporters to attend games have been at an all-time high for the tournament in north America this summer.

There were a number of empty seats in Miami as England beat France 6-4

In May, FIFA tripled the price of its best available tickets to the World Cup final, from $10,990 (£8,174) to $32,970 (£24,524).

In contrast, category one seats for Argentina’s penalty shootout win over France in Qatar four years ago were priced at $1,813 (£1,348).

The knockdown effect of FIFA’s pricing for the 2026 World Cup means that even the third-placed playoff seats were extortionate.

FIFA ticket pricing slammed

Tickets on general sale for what was essentially a glorified friendly between England and France were going for £657 and £855.

As a result, there were thousands of empty seats at Miami Stadium, with an official attendance of 64,478 in the 71,000-seater venue.

England secured their best World Cup finish since 1996 after a madcap 6-4 win over two-time champions France.

It came just days after the Three Lions’ agonising 2-1 semi-final defeat to Argentina, and Guehi paid tribute to the fans for turning back out for the bronze-medal match.

Centre-back Guehi, who played in both games, said: “It’s always hard, especially when you feel like you should have been in the final, so it was down to us to try to do the best that we could.

“We owe it to fans back home for the support.

“We definitely owe it to everyone who came and watched, especially here in Miami,” Guehi continued to reporters post-match.

“Because ticket pricing was rubbish, I don’t know what they were thinking, FIFA, to be honest.

“So at least they could enjoy a fairly entertaining game.”

Despite FIFA’s excessive pricing, fans attending the World Cup final have been delayed entering MetLife Stadium after a technical glitch.

As stated, they already are the most expensive general admission tickets in history, having been sold for around £8,333 by FIFA.

According to the BBC, the most expensive resale ticket for the final on FIFA’s resale platform is listed at $2million (£1.52m), plus a FIFA fee of $300,000 (£228,000).
