Logan Jones will have big shoes to fill after landing Brian Urlacher’s number
After being selected as the No.57 pick by the Chicago Bears in the NFL Draft, rookie center Logan Jones has quite the daunting task ahead of him. On Friday, the Bears officially announced that Jones will wear the No.54, the number last worn by Brian Urlacher, per 104.3 The Score.
Jones took it in stride during a press conference after the rookie minicamp, per CHGO Bears.
“It’s such an honor to be able to wear that number,” Jones said.

Urlacher is one of the most beloved players in franchise history. He played for Chicago from 2000 to 2012. In 2000, Urlacher was named the NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year. He won the NFL Defensive Player of the Year award in 2005 with 121 tackles. In fact, Urlacher was instrumental in leading the Bears to four NFC North Division titles in 2001, 2005, 2006, and 2010. In 2006, he helped lead the Bears to Super Bowl XLI.
Along the way, he became an eight-time Pro Bowler. In 2018, Urlacher was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton, Ohio. It turns out the No. 54 isn’t technically retired by the organization.
Meanwhile, Jones is coming off a successful senior season with the Iowa Hawkeyes. In December 2025, he won the Rimington Trophy as the nation’s top center. Also, Jones was the team captain and played in every single game.
Overall, Jones is competing for the starting center position against a veteran, Garrett Bradbury.
Nevertheless, it is anticipated that Jones will take over, as he is known for his athleticism and high football IQ.
