Lane Kiffin announces major Ole Miss decision amid $90m links to LSU
It’s the hottest topic in all of college football and beyond: what is Lane Kiffin going to do?
The Ole Miss head coach has offered a bit of clarity on the situation, at least as it pertains to the rest of the 2025 season.

It’s still unclear whether Kiffin will return to Ole Miss in 2026, but for now he appears committed to finishing out the regular season and postseason with the Rebels.
Ole Miss is 10–1 and currently ranked seventh in the College Football Playoff, with one game left against rival Mississippi State in the Egg Bowl before the postseason begins.
The Rebels have all but secured their first-ever playoff berth, marking a monumental moment for the program, yet their head coach continues to be linked to two of the biggest jobs in the sport at LSU and Florida.
It has even been reported that LSU is preparing to offer the 50-year-old a $90 million deal.
Ole Miss athletic director Keith Carter has already made it clear that Kiffin will address his future following the Egg Bowl, but the head coach took it a step further this week.
Kiffin made it clear he’s staying to finish out the season with Ole Miss.
Kiffin was asked whether coaching the remainder of the season at Ole Miss mattered, and he replied, “Very important, I’ve never thought of anything differently.”
He then insisted he isn’t diverting attention from his players, citing the evolving landscape of college football and college athletics as a whole.
“It’s a different generation, guys,” Kiffin continued.
“It’s different than we were in as players couldn’t leave and players chose to go play for their home state a lot. They all can leave every year.

“A lot of that is financially based. And so, they don’t think the traditional way that years ago about their coach and what can go on with him next year.
“That’s not how they think anymore. So, that makes it a lot easier to not listen to the noise. Because, as a fan, that noise is really loud because it’s your team, it’s your team for a long time.
“These kids don’t think that way. It’s a product of the system.”
Right now, it’s anyone’s guess what Kiffin will do next, though if he were staying at Ole Miss, he likely would have announced it by now.
That didn’t happen, but he’s the ultimate troll. Who’s to say that after beating their in-state rival on Friday, he won’t walk up to the podium and pull a Jordan Belfort?
“I’m not leaving. I’m not f—- leaving!”
talkSPORT reacts... The Lane Kiffin saga is both the beauty and the eyesore of college football
Lane Kiffin’s drama is college football at its most captivating and chaotic.
Hear me out.
Where else do you see this kind of drama daily, as the sport’s most coveted name takes hot yoga classes, posts about it, and then follows up with cryptic Bible verses?
Flight trackers from Oxford, Mississippi, to Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and Gainesville, Florida, are in full effect.
Rival schools are gunning for a head coach who’s about to start a postseason run. Saying it out loud feels downright insane.
Yet here we are, and that’s the downside of all this madness.
Ole Miss is enjoying one of the best seasons in program history, on the cusp of its first postseason berth, and because of the way the college football calendar is structured, the team has to worry about potentially losing its head coach instead of fully enjoying the moment.
That stinks. No, it really, really stinks.
