Landry Shamet earns MSG chants after squaring up with Devin Vassell
There’s no question that the NBA Finals between the New York Knicks and San Antonio Spurs has turned up a notch in terms of physicality. That was evident during a play in the third quarter of Game 3 when Knicks guard Landry Shamet was fouled by Spurs guard Devin Vassell.
The foul from Devin Vassell occurred when Landry Shamet was driving to the basket and Vassell bumped him and gave him a little bit of an extra shove on the play. Shamet immediately got up in Vassell’s face, much to the delight of the Knicks’ home crowd who began chanting in support.

Shamet has become a bit of a fan favorite during this season, his second with the Knicks. He originally came to training camp on a non-guaranteed contract and had to make the final roster. He did so, and he’s become such an important player in the rotation during the playoffs.
Through 16 playoff games this season, Shamet is averaging 6.6 points while shooting 52.9 percent from the field, 56.3 percent from the 3-point line and 77.8 percent from the free-throw line. This is Shamet’s seventh career postseason appearance, and both his field goal percentage and 3-point percentage are playoff career-highs. His points per game average is the second highest in his playoff career.
During the first two games of the NBA Finals, Shamet had back-to-back games of 13 points each. In Game 1 he shot 5-of-9 from the field and 3-of-6 from the 3-point line. In Game 2, he shot 5-of-12 from the field and 3-of-7 from the 3-point line.
The former Wichita State standout didn’t have as big a role under former head coach Tom Thibodeau last season, but he’s thrived under Mike Brown.
