Lakers rumors: Insider harshly shuts down idea of Anthony Davis reunion

The Los Angeles Lakers are currently limping toward the postseason, with both Luka Doncic and Austin Reaves currently sidelined due to injury. The Lakers are quite a different team from the days when Anthony Davis was LeBron James’ co-star, an era that came to an end with Davis’ shocking trade to the Dallas Mavericks in exchange for Doncic last year.

Some have wondered whether a return to Los Angeles could be on the horizon for Davis at some point later down the line in his career, but recently, Lakers insider Jovan Buha dumped cold water on that proposition.

“I don’t see it,” Buha said on his podcast, Buha’s Block, per Basket News. “I think time needs to pass for some of the wounds to heal with the situation. I think it’s still relatively fresh [since the trade happened], at least from the AD side. “Also, I think that’s a massive risk [for the Lakers] with just his injury history. I mean, he has not been healthy since the trade, so looking at the contract plus the injury history, I would be pretty skeptical of that.”

Indeed, Davis compiled a storied injury history during his time with the Lakers, something that carried over to his tenure with the Dallas Mavericks, a run that ended after just one season when he was traded to the Washington Wizards earlier this year.

When he’s healthy, Davis remains one of the most talented big men in the NBA, but as Buha mentioned, there is also the emotional aspect of Davis potentially not wanting to join the team that blindsided him by trading him in the middle of the night last year.

In any case, the Lakers will hit the floor for the final time this regular season on Sunday night at home vs the Utah Jazz.
