Kylian Mbappé reveals his FIFA World Cup top scorer picks
The most-watched sporting competition in the world is right around the corner and has the fans all geared up. The 2026 FIFA World Cup is just days away and will begin with a match between Mexico and South Africa on Jun. 11, 2026. However, just a few days before that, France international player Kylian Mbappé had made a bold prediction about the tournament’s top goal scorer.
As excitement continues to build for the tournament, Mbappé has shared his thoughts on the World Cup’s potential Golden Boot winner. Among the names discussed were some of the biggest stars, Vinícius Júnior, Lamine Yamal, Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo, and Mbappé himself.
During a football challenge with content creator Finn Agostinelli in partnership with Sorare, Mbappé took part in a game, where he was asked to pick which player would score the most goals in this year’s World Cup.
The Real Madrid star began the game by picking Spain’s Lamine Yamal over Germany’s Florian Wirtz, Memphis Depay, Mohammad Salah, and Erling Haaland. He then picked his Real Madrid teammate Vinícius Júnior, whom he backed against Harry Kane. However, when Lionel Messi’s name came up, Mbappé picked him over “Vini Jr.” before switching his pick to Cristiano Ronaldo. In the final round of the game, he picked himself to become this year’s top goal scorer over Portugal legend Ronaldo.
Ronaldo and Messi continue to be two of the most successful players in soccer history; however, Mbappé himself is slowly moving toward becoming a World Cup legend. The French forward has scored 12 goals in 14 matches across two FIFA World Cup tournaments (2018 and 2022). He is just 4 goals behind the all-time World Cup record of 16 goals, held by Germany’s Miroslav Klose.
