Knicks fans take over Cavs arena in anticipation of ECF series sweep

New York Knicks fans sure are excited about tonight, which could be a historic evening for the franchise.

With a win tonight in Game 4 of their Eastern Conference Finals series vs. the Cleveland Cavaliers, the Knicks would clinch the franchise’s first trip back to the NBA Finals since 1999. And the New York fans surely know that, as they are attempting — and succeeding, it seems — a takeover of the Cavs’ Rocket Arena.

Cleveland 19 News reporter Ashly Holder posted a short video on X, formerly Twitter, with the caption, “‘Let’s go Knicks’ chants filling Rocket Arena. SOOO many Knicks fans in the building tonight. They are LOUD!”

Additionally, The Athletic columnist and longtime Cavs writer Jason Lloyd said, “I have never, and I mean never, heard as many opposing teams’ fans in this arena for a game as tonight.”

While Cavaliers owner Dan Gilbert is reportedly doing everything he can to avoid an opposing fanbase potentially celebrating a sweep in his own arena, it’s not hard to understand why the New York faithful would feel confident about doing so.

The Knicks mounted an unfathomable comeback in Game 1, during which they erased a 22-point deficit to win 115-104 in overtime. Since then, New York decisively won Games 2 and 3 by 16 and 13 points, respectively.

If the Knicks cannot clinch the series sweep tonight, then they will have another chance to do so back at Madison Square Garden on Wednesday.
