Knicks fans are paying insane prices for premium championship parade spots
The New York Knicks’ improbable run to the title will forever be talked about as one of the greatest stories in league history. What the Knicks did to end a 53-year championship drought united an entire city. You cannot put a price on that.
But for a premium spot in the championship parade, you definitely can.
The much-anticipated event is set on Thursday, with Jalen Brunson and company expected to draw hundreds of thousands of fans, possibly shutting down the whole city.
According to a report from the New York Daily News’ Colin Mixson, some are already hiring gig workers for up to $100 to wait for hours and hold a nice spot for them in the championship parade.
“In one case, as recorded on X by PIX11 politics reporter Emily Rahhal, an Airtasker user offered a whopping $750 for anyone willing to show up at midnight before the event and wait until 8 a.m.—two hours before the parade’s scheduled 10 a.m. start,” wrote Mixson.
The expensive move sparked mixed reactions on X.
“Biggest scam ever. Can’t wait to see who falls for this,” said @jonlamnyc.
“Yes, because a bunch of fans that have been waiting for 5+ hours are definitely going to believe you when you say you have someone reserving your spot all the way in the front, and surely, they’ll let you through with no hesitation,” added @artbysal.
“Hire a line of people to wait from the edge all the way to the front, LOL,” suggested @allswell1256563.
“LMAO, you mean people are dumb and getting robbed,” wrote @SheisNajah.
“How much for Knicks barricade spot + a cronut?” joked @JustinBrannan.
It is the first time the Knicks will have a championship parade. They did not have any when they won the crown in 1970 and 1973.
After the championship parade, Mayor Zohran Mamdani will host a Key to the City ceremony at City Hall Plaza.
It remains unclear how much it costs to reserve a spot in one of the trees.
