Knicks dominant run to ECF makes new NBA playoff history
The New York Knicks are playing like an usnstoppable machine after dispatching the Philadelphia 76ers in four straight games in the second round of the playoffs. The Knicks will move into the Eastern Conference Finals against the winner of the Detroit Pistons-Cleveland Cavaliers matchup.
The Knicks have won seven postseason games in a row. They trailed the Atlanta Hawks by a 2-1 margin after the first three games of that series. However, they have been on fire since Game 4. Most observers thought the 76ers could challenge the Knicks in the second round. They had rebounded from a 3-1 deficit against the Boston Celtics in the first round and defeated that favored rival.
However, the Sixers got hammered badly in Games 1 and 4. New York closed out the series with a 144-114 victory in Philadelphia. The Knicks had a lights-out shooting day and ran the Sixers out of their own building.
The Knicks set a record with their three-point shooting as they made 25 shots from beyond the arc. Guard Deuce McBride led the way as he connected on 7 of 9 three-point shots and the Sixers had no way of slowing him down. McBride had a team-leading 25 points.
Jalen Brunson has been the Knicks’ go-to superstar throughout the postseason and he hit 6 of 10 three-point shots and scored 22 points. Josh Hart is not known for his outside shooting, but he made 4 of 6 from beyond the arc and had 17 points and 9 rebounds.
The Knicks jumped out to a 43-24 lead at the end of the first quarter and were never challenged. Center Joel Embiid led the Sixers with 24 points, but it was not enough to help his team stay close.
