Knicks Deuce McBride gets real about NY fans’ Game 4 takeover vs. 76ers

Sunday night inside Xfinity Mobile Arena felt less like a road game for the New York Knicks and more like a sold-out night at Madison Square Garden. Thousands of blue-and-orange faithful descended on Philadelphia, brandished brooms outside the arena, and waved “Always Knicks” towels inside, and Miles “Deuce” McBride made sure they had every reason to cheer.

With the Knicks nursing a series lead and OG Anunoby sidelined due to injury, McBride stepped into the starting lineup and delivered one of the most electric performances of this postseason. He drained four consecutive three-pointers in the opening quarter, becoming the first Knick since play-by-play tracking began in 1997 to hit four threes in the first quarter of a playoff game, and the chants rang out immediately — “Deuuuce… Deuuuce… Deuuuce”.

By the time the smoke cleared, McBride had finished with 25 points on seven three-pointers as New York rolled past Philadelphia 144-114, completing a dominant sweep and punching their ticket to the Eastern Conference Finals for the second straight year.

After the game, McBride got candid about what those chants and that fan takeover meant to him. “I’m grateful for our fans traveling,” McBride said. “It’s special to play for New York.” He also went on to elaborate on just how much the road support fuels this team. “I’ve never seen anything like it,” he added. “I think it really does give us energy. Really helps us out — when guys are feeling down, they pick it right up. So it’s a great feeling”.

The Knicks’ fan invasion was no accident. New York supporters have made a habit of buying up tickets at Sixers home games in recent playoff runs, and Joel Embiid’s pleas for Philadelphia fans to hold onto their seats went completely ignored.

New York’s 11 first-quarter threes tied the NBA postseason record for a single quarter, and their 25 total for the game tied the all-time playoff mark. The Knicks’ 144 points were also the most in franchise playoff history.

McBride made clear that despite the celebration, the mission is far from over. “Our expectations are a championship, nothing less,” he told reporters. “This series is done — enjoy it. But we have a lot more to go”.
