Kevin Durant lands on Rockets’ injury report before Lakers Game 1

The No. 5-seeded Houston Rockets are set to take on the No. 4-seeded Los Angeles Lakers on Saturday, in Game 1 of their first-round contest in the NBA Playoffs. While L.A. is already without Luka Doncic (left hamstring) and Austin Reaves (left oblique), it appears Kevin Durant has popped up in the Rockets’ latest injury report. Here’s everything we know about Durant’s status for Saturday’s postseason matchup.

Reports indicate that the 37-year-old forward is questionable for Game 1 vs. the Lakers due to a right knee contusion, according to NBA Insider Brett Siegel. For now, his availability for the Rockets remains up in the air as the team prepares to reach the second round of the playoffs for the first time since the 2019-20 season.

Durant has not played in a game since the Rockets’ 136-132 loss to the Minnesota Timberwolves on April 10. The 18-year veteran ended that contest with 33 points, seven rebounds, seven assists, one steal, and two blocks while shooting 72.2% from the field and hitting zero three-pointers.

Kevin Durant missed the Rockets’ regular-season finale against the Memphis Grizzlies, which ended in a 132-101 victory for Houston. Kevin Durant did not play that game, as he was given a rest day for that contest. That means the right knee contusion may have been suffered during a practice while preparing for the playoffs.

Despite the injury concern, the 16-time All-Star played in 78 games for the Rockets in the regular season. He ended the campaign averaging 26.0 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 4.8 assists per game with a 52.0% field goal percentage and going 41.3% from beyond the three-point line.

So, when it comes to Kevin Durant’s status for Game 1 of the Rockets-Lakers playoff series, the answer is to be determined, as he is questionable on the injury report. Houston should reveal his true status before the scheduled 8:30 tip-off time.
