Kelsey Plum follows Sophie Cunningham lead with new job weeks after six-figure WNBA deal

Kelsey Plum has decided that playing in the WNBA just simply isn’t enough.

The Los Angeles Sparks star has decided that she will also join Prime’s coverage of the 2026 WNBA season as a player contributor as well.

“I’m excited to join Prime Video this WNBA season, as the league has never been more valuable in terms of media deals and viewership,” Plum said in a press release on Thursday.

“There’s so much talent and momentum around the league, and I look forward to bringing fans a current player’s perspective while highlighting the personalities and storylines that make the game so special.”

The 2017 No. 1 overall pick has established herself as a fan-favorite over the course of her career, stemming back to her collegiate days at Washington where she broke the NCAA all-time scoring record.

Plum will make select appearances throughout the season, like that of Indiana Fever star Sophie Cunningham, who has assumed a similar role with USA Network.

Prime have also done a similar thing in the NBA, with long-time veteran and 2019 champion Kyle Lowry made part of the network’s studio show for “select shows” during this season’s playoffs, following his team Philadelphia 76ers‘ first-round exit.

“Kelsey’s had a standout career in the WNBA and is a dynamic presence in women’s basketball,” Amina Hussein, Prime Video Sports Head of On-Air Talent and Development, said.

“We’re building something special with WNBA on Prime, and her contributions to our broadcast as a current league veteran will add to our goal of delivering fans an authentic, player-driven experience.”

Plum was drafted by the San Antonio Stars – now known as the Las Vegas Aces – and won back-to-back WNBA championships in 2022 and 2023, as well as the 2022 Commissioner’s Cup.

In 2025, she was traded to the Sparks in a blockbuster three-team deal which involved Jewell Loyd heading to the Sin City, while the Seattle Storm acquired the No. 2 pick in the 2025 draft, which they went on to select French forward-center Dominique Malonga.

In her first season in Los Angeles, Plum was the No. 1 option for the first time in her professional career, and led the Sparks in scoring with 19.5 points per game, and assists with 5.7.

After the brand new Collective Bargaining Agreement was struck on March 18, Plum went on to pen a one-year contract with the team worth $999,999, accepting a discounted deal – deliberately under $1 million.

She did so to give the Sparks salary cap flexibility to build out their roster after they finished with the second-worst record in the Western Conference, winning just 21 games.

In doing so, the four-time All-Star also left money on the table, with her having been eligible for a $1.4 million supermax.

The 31-year-old will join a star-studded studio line-up of Allie Clifton as host, along with Hall of Famers Swin Cash and Cynthia Cooper, as well as Candace Parker, Teresa Weathersoon, Tamera “Ty” Young and Los Angeles Lakers assistant coach Lindsey Harding.

This comes as Prime are in their first year of an 11-year media deal they struck with the WNBA, which will see them air 21 regular season games a year, as well as one first-round playoff series a season, seven conference finals series and three WNBA Finals.
