Judge grants subpoena for Tiger Woods medication records in DUI case

There has been an update in Tiger Woods’ DUI case following his March rollover crash.

In a hearing at Martin County Circuit Court in Florida on Tuesday, May 12, a judge granted prosecutors’ request for Woods’ prescription records as part of the state’s ongoing investigation into his DUI. The golf icon was arrested in Florida back in March.

Woods’ lawyer, Douglas Duncan, claimed it was an invasion of Woods’ privacy. While the subpoena has been granted, Woods’ records will only be accessed by prosecutors, law enforcement, expert witnesses, and Tiger’s legal team. The records will not be available via the state open records law and will be shielded from public view, according to ESPN.

“While the state is legally entitled to the records, the defendant still maintains a constitutional privacy interest in the prescription records as it pertains to the general public,” Duncan told the court per NBC.

Following his DUI arrest, a police report indicated the pills that were found at the time of his arrest were hydrocodone pills.

This update in Woods’ case follows his not guilty plea on March 31. In addition to the DUI charge, he was also charged with property damage, refusal to submit to a lawful test, and was later cited for careless driving. He pleaded not guilty to all of the charges.

The five-time Masters champion broke his silence on the incident on X and shared that he would be checking himself into a rehabilitation center to recover.

“This is necessary in order for me to prioritize my well-being and work toward lasting recovery,” he said at the time.

“I am stepping away for a period of time to seek treatment and focus on my health. This is necessary in order for me to prioritize my well-being and work toward lasting recovery. I’m committed to taking the time needed to return in a healthier, stronger, and more focused place, both personally and professionally,” Woods continued. “I appreciate your understanding and support, and ask for privacy for my family, loved ones, and myself at this time.”
